'Welcome to Rome, My Friend!': Giorgia Meloni Shares Photo With PM Narendra Modi as He Arrives in Italy

A photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has gone viral on social media After Italy PM shares photo during the Indian Prime Minister’s ongoing Europe tour.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Italy on Tuesday night, May 19, as part of his four-day visit to European countries. During his visit, he met Italian President Sergio Mattarella and PM Meloni to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Following the meeting, Giorgia Meloni shared a selfie with Prime Minister Modi taken at the historic Colosseum in Rome. Posting the picture on social media, she wrote, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” The photograph has since gained significant attention online.

Italy is the final stop of Prime Minister Modi’s European tour. Before arriving in Rome, he visited Norway, Sweden, Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where several agreements were signed across various sectors.

Officials said Modi’s visit to Italy is also expected to result in key agreements between the two nations. India and Italy are currently working on a Joint Strategic Action Plan to strengthen cooperation in trade and other sectors. Discussions are also expected on security, clean energy, science and technology, research, and human resource exchange.

Earlier during his visit to the Netherlands, Prime Minister Modi witnessed the signing of an agreement between Tata Group and ASML aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

Speaking after the agreement, Modi said ASML would support the development and expansion of Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor facility in Dholera, Gujarat. He added that India’s progress in the semiconductor sector was creating major opportunities for the country’s youth and that the government would continue to strengthen the sector in the future.
