The Airoli ward of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) demolished multiple illegal structures on March 12 after property owners failed to respond to notices issued by the civic body. The action was carried out under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and the guidance of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Mr. Bhagwat Doiphode.
The demolition drive targeted unauthorized constructions in Airoli’s G Division, where structures belonging to Mulchand Lalahari Nishad, Dhondiba Harisha Jadhav, and Shakuntala Unawane were built without permission. These properties, located at C-217, C-266, and B-457 in Sector-02, had been served notices under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, requiring the owners to remove the illegal structures. However, after they failed to comply, the NMMC proceeded with the demolition on March 11, 2025.
The operation was led by Dr. Ankush Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer of Airoli, along with Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre. Officials and staff from the division, along with personnel from the Encroachment Police Unit, played an active role in the drive. The demolition process involved the use of two gas cutters, three hammers, and ten laborers to carry out the partial removal of the unauthorized structures.
NMMC has reiterated its commitment to strict action against illegal construction to ensure compliance with municipal regulations.
