NMMC Offers Relief: 50% Penalty Waiver on Late Property Tax Payments
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has introduced an Amnesty Scheme, offering a 50% waiver on the penalty for delayed property tax payments. The civic body has described this initiative as a golden opportunity for property tax defaulters to clear their dues with reduced penalties.
This scheme will be available from March 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM until March 31, 2025, at midnight. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde has taken this decision, urging property tax defaulters to take advantage of this opportunity and clear their dues with reduced penalty charges.
Under this scheme, there is no waiver on the principal amount, meaning property owners must pay the full outstanding tax, while only the penalty on delayed payments will be reduced by 50%. Partial payments will not be eligible, and the full amount, including the reduced penalty, must be paid in one go. The municipal corporation has also warned that strict legal action will be taken against defaulters who fail to pay despite multiple reminders.
A significant amount of property tax remains unpaid in the municipal jurisdiction. As per the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, the commissioner has the authority to grant a penalty waiver to facilitate better tax collection. Dr. Kailas Shinde has exercised this power to implement the amnesty scheme, ensuring that taxpayers who pay their full dues by March 31, 2025, can benefit from the 50% penalty waiver.
To avail of this scheme, property owners must apply online through the official NMMC website (nmmc.gov.in) or via the “My NMMC – Majhi Navi Mumbai” mobile app. Payments can also be made in person at the municipal headquarters, ward offices, or designated payment centers. Various payment methods are available, including cash, cheque, demand draft, debit or credit card, internet banking, NEFT, RTGS, and UPI. However, if a cheque bounces for any reason, the applicant will lose eligibility for the scheme. Cash payments will be accepted following the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
This scheme is exclusively for taxpayers who pay their full outstanding property tax, including the current year’s dues, in one single payment between March 10 and March 31, 2025. Payments made before March 10, 2025, will not be eligible for a refund or adjustment under this scheme.
Dr. Kailas Shinde has appealed to all property owners to clear their dues before the deadline and cooperate with the municipal tax collection teams. By taking advantage of this limited-time opportunity, defaulters can avoid legal consequences while benefiting from a 50% waiver on penalty charges. Don’t miss this chance to settle your property tax arrears before March 31, 2025!
