In significant fraud a retired Indian Navy officer from Kopar Khairane got duped for Rs. 42.51 lakh in promise of earing money by posting Google Maps ratings for hotels. Police has registered case against unidentified cyber criminals and has launched investigation in this matter.
The victim is a 60-year-old man a retired naval officer, who got contacted by accused via telegram id in May 2026. At beginning fraudster gave simple task to the victim gave simple online tasks, such as rating hotels on Google Maps, promising attractive returns. After gaining his trust, they persuaded him to invest in various bank accounts for higher profits. The victim transferred a total of Rs 42.51 lakh to these accounts but received neither returns nor his principal.
Realizing the scam, the retired officer reported the incident to the Koparkhairane police, who registered an FIR against unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The investigation is ongoing. Navi Mumbai Police advise citizens to remain alert against online task and investment frauds promising easy money.
