As India continue to grapple with the rising COVID-19 case, a village in Madhya Pradesh has managed to keep the virus at away.

Chikhalar village in Madhya Pradesh is in the news for all the right reasons. One being, for not recording a single COVID-19 case until now despite the deadly second wave of the pandemic.

Second being, the women bagging all the credit for it. Yes, you read that right.

The women of the village have taken it upon themselves to restrict the entry of outsiders completely. Armed with sticks, the women not only prevent outsiders from entering into the village but have also imposed a complete lockdown in their locality to keep the residents safe from the novel coronavirus.

This village is otherwise famous for the sale of raw liquor.But what’s put this village on the map are the women dressed in sarees and armed with sticks who ensure no one enters the village.

The women sealed the boundaries of the village by placing a bamboo barricade next to a poster that prohibits the entry of outsiders.

And that’s not all, the women also monitor everyone entering the state highway, passing close to the village.

Instead of having villagers go outdoors to do important work, two youths have been assigned to get the work done for the rest instead.

According to the women of Chikhalar, they have no qualms to wield the sticks against people who are aimlessly wandering in the village. They say they took this tough decision to safeguard its people from the deadly virus.

This village has indeed set a vibrant example on how people have gathered together to do their bit to protect themselves from the infection. Chikhalar has set a wonderful example for not just villages but even cities in India to follow.
