India expected to launch BSNL 5G network next year

The country's private sector telecom companies are considering launching their 5G services later this year. But now they have to wait for the spectrum auction.

The government has not yet announced a spectrum auction, nor has it made it clear. But sources told PTI that private telecom companies will launch 5G services this year.

Public sector telecom company BSNL is all set to launch 5G services in 2023. This year, the company aims to launch 4G services only.

BSNL will launch an indigenous 4G network. For which a domestic 4G core has already been developed in partnership with TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) and C-DoT (Center for Development of Telematics).

BSNL can launch 5G on 4G core. Other companies will take advantage of 5G NSA (non-standalone) technology to launch 5G networks for customers in India.

For this, BSNL needs the first 4G network. The company will also launch 4G services in several cities across the country later this year. This includes states like Maharashtra and Kerala.

In August, BSNL will start testing in four districts of Kerala. Apart from this, testing is also likely to start in other states. But BSNL has not clarified any role in this regard.
