Pune: Illegal Foreign Liquor Worth ₹2 Lakh Seized from Car in Laxminagar

Amid heightened security arrangements in the city ahead of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, the Laxminagar Police carried out a significant operation and uncovered the illegal transportation of foreign liquor from a Scorpio vehicle. According to officials, on the night of April 14, police personnel Bhimrao Kamble and Amol Wayal received a tip-off from informants about a black Scorpio moving from Shahadal Baba Chowk towards Nagar Road with a stock of liquor. Acting promptly on this information, night patrol officer Assistant Police Inspector Sawant directed the team to take immediate action and set up a trap at the identified location.

Around midnight, when the suspected Scorpio (MH14 LP 7474) arrived at Shahadal Baba Chowk, the police signalled it to stop. However, the driver attempted to escape, leading to a brief chase. The alert police team quickly intercepted the vehicle and brought the situation under control. A thorough search of the car revealed several boxes of foreign liquor concealed in the trunk. The swift action ensured that the illegal consignment was seized before it could be transported further within the city.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officers, including Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Kadam, Police Inspector Umesh Gite, and Assistant Police Inspector Ravikant Nandanwar, along with their team. Authorities are now conducting further investigations to determine the origin of the seized liquor and its intended destination.
