Pune Railway Station Gets Advanced CCTV Cameras; Passenger Security Strengthened

Pune railway station in the Central Railway division is important as millions of traveler commute through this station. For the security of passengers have installed 160 advanced CCTV cameras at station. Due to the presence of high-tech cameras, it has become easier to monitor the minute movements and the security of passengers has increased. Considering the flow of passengers and the increasing crowd, there was a need for a more efficient security system at the station. The number of cameras installed earlier was insufficient.

Following a proposal from the railway administration prompted by incidents of theft, pickpocketing, and kidnapping, the Railway Board approved funding for an expanded CCTV system. The installation of 160 new CCTV cameras was completed in February after delays due to technical issues. All platforms, entrances, ticket windows, parking areas, and other key locations within the station are now under surveillance, enhancing security for passengers and assisting the railway administration.

Some ‘smart’ cameras have also been included in the CCTV cameras installed at the station, which will make it easier to detect suspicious movements, identify criminals and take immediate action against them. This is expected to effectively curb petty and big crimes including pickpocketing. With this new security system, passengers and railway property at the Pune railway station have become safer, and the railway administration has reached an important milestone in terms of security.

State-of-the-art control room

A separate and state-of-the-art control room has been set up for the railway security force in the backdrop of the new cameras. The entire station is being monitored 24 hours a day through a large LED screen. Trained staff have been appointed, and it has been possible to respond immediately in emergency situations. The newly installed cameras have brought the entire railway station and its surroundings under CCTV coverage. The security of passengers has been strengthened due to the installation of state-of-the-art cameras. This has increased safety. -Hemant Kumar Behera, Public Relations Officer, Pune Division.
