Pune Water Park Accident: Woman Paralysed After Slide Mishap at Shirur Resort

A 37-year-old woman suffered life-altering injuries after a tragic mishap at a water park located in Morachi Chincholi village in Shirur taluka of Pune district. The incident occurred at the Jai Malhar Agri-Tourism Centre and has sparked serious concerns regarding the adequacy of safety arrangements at recreational destinations. According to initial information, the accident has raised questions about whether proper precautions were in place for visitors. Such facilities often attract large crowds, especially during holidays, making safety preparedness crucial. This unfortunate episode has once again highlighted the risks associated with poorly monitored amusement attractions.

The injured woman, identified as Ashwini Sandeep Napte, had gone to the park along with her family members for leisure. During her visit, she decided to use one of the water slides, but the activity turned disastrous. As she descended, she forcefully struck the base of the pool, allegedly due to insufficient water depth. The impact was severe enough to render her unconscious instantly. What was meant to be a fun outing quickly turned into a medical emergency. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the situation escalated within moments, leaving family members and others present at the spot shocked and distressed.

Medical examinations later revealed that she had sustained fractures in four vertebrae of her spine, leading to paralysis below the waist. She is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, where her condition remains critical and life-changing. Her family alleged that the absence of immediate emergency response facilities at the site worsened her situation. They claimed that there was neither an ambulance on standby nor trained medical personnel available to handle such emergencies. As a result, relatives had to arrange for a private ambulance, causing delays in shifting her to a hospital and impacting her chances of timely medical intervention.

Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged by Kiran Napte, prompting the registration of a case at Shirur Police Station under the Pune Rural Police. The complaint names the owner and manager of the tourism centre, holding them accountable for negligence. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine whether safety norms were violated and to fix responsibility. Police officials are expected to examine the site conditions, maintenance standards, and compliance with regulations. The case has brought the functioning of such tourist facilities under scrutiny, particularly regarding their accountability towards visitor safety.
