The Loni Kalbhor Police have booked a woman for allegedly using the National Emblem as her WhatsApp display picture while posing as a senior IPS officer. The accused is a private money lender and is booked under the Maharashtra Moneylending Act and other relevant sections. She operates in the Vadki area of Pune and lends money at an interest rate of 10 to 15 per cent per month to locals.

The accused has been identified as Renuka Ishwar Karanure, 32, a resident of Siddhivinayak Society, Vadki, Dist. Haveli. Puja Pravin More, 31, a resident of Sri Siddhivinayak Park, Vadki, has lodged a complaint with the police.

According to information provided by the Loni Kalbhor police, Karanure lent Rs 2,68,000 to the complainant, Pooja More, during the COVID-19 lockdown. Despite receiving three times the principal amount plus interest, Karanure demanded more money from More. When More refused to pay further, claiming she had already paid the principal amount with interest, Karanure allegedly harassed and threatened to kill her.

Posing as a senior IPS officer, Karanure repeatedly harassed More and used the National Emblem on her phone to intimidate her into paying more. After receiving repeated threats, More immediately went to the Loni Kalbhor Police Station and registered a complaint against Karanure. Following a verification of the facts by Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan, the police have registered a case against Renuka Karanure. Police Sub-Inspector Amol Ghodke is conducting further investigation into the case.
