Thane: 12-year-old boy Drowns in Water-Filled Pit Dug for Bullet Train Project

Thane, Maharashtra (April 10, 2025): A 12-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a water-filled pit dug for the bullet train project in Kopar village on Monday evening. The pit had no protective fencing around it. The victim, identified as Devvrat Jugesh Pandey, was a fourth-grade student at Chandrabai Anant Patil School in Koper. His annual exams had begun on Monday. After completing his first paper, he attended tuition classes in the village to prepare for the next exam. Later, he returned home and went swimming with his brother and friends in the pit dug for the bullet train project's columns. The water was deep, and he drowned.

Devvrat’s father, Jugesh Pandey, is an auto-rickshaw driver and has been living in a chawl in Kopar for the past six years with his wife and two sons, Devvrat and eight-year-old Sunil. He worked long hours to secure a better future for his children. The tragic death of his son has shattered his dreams.

MP Demands Action Against Responsible Company

Bhiwandi MP Suresh Mhatre, also known as Balyamama, met the grieving family and assured them of support. He visited the accident site and spoke with senior police officers at the Narpoli police station, demanding strict action against the company responsible for the negligence.
