Aurangabad, May 15:For the first time since independence, petrol price hikes are nearing the Rs 100 mark. Since the last 30 years, petrol has gone up by Rs 84 per liter. The rising fuel prices have hit the common man as it is leading to inflation.Assembly elections were held in five states, thus the prices remained stable for a month. However after elections, the petrol-diesel prices began to rise immediately. The state-owned oil companies say that fuel prices are rising due to rising crude oil prices in the international markets. However, the people are wondering why the rates are kept stable at the time of elections. A study of the last 30 years reveals that in May 1991, petrol was being sold at Rs 15.80 per liter in the city. Now the price has gone up to Rs 99.88 per liter. In the last 30 years, it has increased by Rs 84.8 per liter. In the ten years from 1991 to 2001, petrol prices went up by Rs 15.23 per liter. Later the price doubled from 2001 to 2011 at Rs 30.91, while the decade from 2011 to 2021 became the most expensive in terms of inflation as price has gone up by Rs 37.94 per liter. If such a situation persists, petrol may be sold around Rs 140 per liter in the coming decade.Taxes higher than oil pricesPetrol has gone up to Rs 100 per liter. However, the actual price of petrol is between Rs 35 and Rs 36. However, the central and state governments have imposed huge taxes on fuel. The central government levies 40 per cent tax, while the state government levies 24 per cent VAT. Apart from that, the cess levied for various reasons is different. This also includes crude oil prices, processing, dealers commissions that totals the taxes to 64 per cent. However, petrol costs only Rs 36 per liter excluding tax. The government carries out various development works from the taxes. If fuel is included in GST, the government will get only 28 per cent tax and the entire budget of the government will collapse. However, inflation has made life difficult for the common man.Will have to use a cycleTwo-wheeler has become a necessity of life. We cannot think of daily life without a vehicle. However, since we have to buy petrol for Rs 100, now we have no choice but to use the cycle, said motorist Pritam Jadhav.Must be included in GSTPetrol and diesel should be included in GST. This will bring the prices within the reach of the common man. Salary has not increased as much as inflation. On the contrary, the salary was reduced. Some lost their jobs.
