Lokmat News NetworkNagpur, Oct 14There are nine main centres and 48 sub-centres of Doordarshan in Maharashtra. These centres were representing local culture and highlighting local issues. But now it seems that all these centres have come under umbrella of Mumbai Doordarshan.Out of nine main centres, Nagpur Doordarshan is an important centre. This centre in second capital of Maharashtra represented entire Vidarbha region. The centre would telecast social, agriculture and culture sectors and other related issued. But Nagpur Doordarshan has now become just showpiece. The existence of this centre has come to end. Earlier, any programme about Vidarbha was shown from 6 pm to 7 pm from Monday to Saturday. Slowly these programmes ended. The last episode of Krishi Darshan was shown in 2017. An attempt to end existence of Nagpur Doordarshan was made and logo of Nagpur Doordarshan was withdrawn on July 15, 2020 as per order of union minister of information and broadcasting.All these programmes are now being telecast on Sahyadri channel from Mumbai centre due to which questions marks are being raised about need of Nagpur centre.Only 5 hours for Nagpur programmesWhen Vidarbha based programmes were shown on Nagpur Doordarshan, 25 to 26 hours (Monday to Saturday) were available every month. But now only six hours are being made available to programmes prepared at Nagpur centre every month. The Krishi Darshan programme is shown on every Wednesday at 6 pm while Arogya Sampada and Sakhi Sahyadri programmes get two slot (one each) every month.Utility of studios?The Doordarshan has huge set up of Nagpur Doordarshan at Seminary Hills in Nagpur. There are studios and employees also. But as now all programmes ended, efforts are on to close down Nagpur centre of Doordarshan giving a reason that it is now needed anymore. Such talks are going on.
