In a significant political development from the Vasai–Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) elections, Rupesh Jadhav, a senior leader of the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) and former mayor, has suffered a narrow defeat, losing his seat by just 75 votes. Jadhav was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Vishal Jadhav in what turned out to be one of the closest contests of the civic elections. Political observers see Rupesh Jadhav’s defeat as a symbolic setback for the BVA, even as the party continues to dominate the civic administration under the leadership of Hitendra Thakur.
