Aurangabad, Feb 7:

Tehsildar of Paithan Chandrakant Shelke and a team of Pachod police raided the stock of sand stored by sand mafia in Hiradpuri Shivar on wee hours of Sunday. The team seized 120 brass sand in the raid.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of sub-divisional officer, Paithan-Phulambri division Anmol Sagar, and Gorakh Bhamre, assistant superintendent of police. The illegal sand mining is in full swing in Pachod Shivar to Awade Unchegaon, Takli Ambad and at Hiradpuri Shivar. The sand mafia stock the stolen sand and sell it at higher rates in the black market. According to information, Sagar received a tip-off about the illegal trade. Sagar informed assistant superintendent of police Gorakh Bhamre. Tehsildar Chandrakant Shelke, Pachod police station API Atul Yerme, a team of circle officers, talathi and police were alerted. The officials raided the sand stock in Hiradpuri Shivar. A total of 120 brass sand was seized from various places along the river basin. The confiscated sand was valued at around Rs 4.80 lakh, while a tempo carrying sand was also nabbed. The team consisted of circle officer Nihalsingh Bahure, Talathi Chandel Thakur, and Pachod police.
