The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) squad of the city police force executed 155 actions in the past three years. As many as 184 drug peddlers and addicts were arrested in the actions. Similarly, thousands of pills and other sedative materials used for addiction were seized. Still, addiction is on the rise in the city. The NDPS squad, Pundliknagar, City Chowk police and ATS have primarily conducted the actions.
In one of the cases in July, the link of the drug nexus was found at Grant Road in Mumbai. However, the case was dumped as there was no continuity in the investigation. Some children of the wealthy families were caught with drugs. The Pundliknagar police arrested the accused Anil Ambadas Malve (51, Prakashnagar) and seized MD drugs, heroin and marijuana. Malwe is the chief agent of the drug peddlers in the city. During the investigation, the connection of the drug nexus was found at Grant Road in Mumbai. Hence, the police could not reach the kingpins of the drug rackets.
In the same week in July, Mohd Adnan Shaikh Ashraf (27, Ganesh Colony) was arrested with 246.50 grams of heroin worth Rs 4.93 lakh. These agents remained in contact with each other through whatsapp and teligram. They used to delete the chats and call history after the transactions. Drugs are smuggled from Mumbai after every 10 to 15 days.
