Aurangabad, Nov 19:

The Gangapur police have booked 16 persons, including Gangapur MLA, Prashant Bamb, for cheating the members of the Gangapur Co-operative Sugar Factory of Rs 15 crores through forged documents. A case was registered at the Gangapur police station on Wednesday night.

Krishna Patil Dongaon has lodged a complaint in this regard and mentioned that Bamb cheated the members of Rs 15,75,33,338. The Gangapur Sugar Factory is closed since 2007-08. The Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank has taken over the factory due to the pending loans. The bank had planned to sell the factory but the then board of directors of the factory approached the court against the sell transaction. In the court proceedings, Rs 9 crores were collected through the factory. The court returned the amount to the factory, and this amount with interest is Rs 15,75,33,338 now. The factory received the concerned amount on November 7, 2020. The factory chairman and MLA, Prashant Bamb, and acting executive director B M Patil illegally opened an account of Gangapur Co-operative Sugar Factory bank account on July 20, 2020. The resolution taken to open this account was forged while the factory was shown as a partnership firm. Bamb and Patil are shown as the partners and forged documents were presented in this regard, the complainant mentioned.

Similarly, no prior permission was taken from the competent authorities for opening the account. The factory is not a financial institute, and hence it cannot distribute the interest, the complainant added.

Hence a case has been registered against 16 persons, including MLA Bamb.
