Aurangabad, April 12:

In all, 358 pregnant women were treated of Corona infection in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) between April, 2020 and March 2021. These women included from 292 from the Aurangabad district and 66 from the other districts. Moreover, 197 of these women delivered babies at the GMCH and 99 percent of the babies were free from infection.

A pregnant woman delivered a baby at the District Civil Hospital (DCH) in the district. It was the second such case in the country and first in the state. The baby was not infected by the Corona infection. After that 358 pregnant women were treated at the GMCH and most of them delivered babies at the GMCH and some at the private hospitals.

The head of the gynecology department, Dr Shrinivas Gadappa said that the women should not be afraid even if got infected during pregnancy. If the babies are breast feed taking proper care, the babies remain free from Corona infection, he said.

Meanwhile, 99 percent babies born in the GMCH were free from infection. Only three new born babies had the Corona infection. These babies were found infected after five days. Similarly, 7 babies admitted in the GMCH in advanced stages died.
