Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A desperate attempt to escape from a de-addiction center turned fatal for Sandeep Sansare, a civil engineer who had lost his job due to alcohol dependence. In the dead of night, he fell from the sixth floor of the facility in Phulenagar, Osmanpura, succumbing to severe injuries.

Originally from Dharavi-Matunga, Mumbai, Sansare had been battling addiction for years. Despite multiple rehabilitation efforts, his struggle continued, eventually costing him his career at a reputed firm. His wife, a teacher in Vaijapur, relocated him to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, hoping a change in environment would aid his recovery. On March 21, he was admitted to the Muktai De-Addiction Center, but restlessness plagued him from the outset. Tragedy struck on March 28 at midnight when he attempted to flee. Scaling a window on the sixth floor, he lost his balance and plummeted onto the road, suffering fatal head and chest injuries.

Others also attempted to escape

Investigations revealed that Sansare was not alone in his escape attempt; three to four other patients had also planned to flee. However, while others hesitated, he made the climb and tragically fell. Osmanpura police are probing the circumstances leading to the incident. "Preliminary findings indicate he was highly agitated and determined to escape," said investigating officer Rajesh Phirange. Authorities are now examining security measures at the facility to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
