Aurangabad, Nov 10:

As many as Rs 1 crore will be distributed to three and a half thousand employees of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on the occasion of Diwali. Similarly, Rs 6 crore will be distributed to small contractors from Wednesday.

AMC has a tradition of giving Diwali ex-gratia and gifts to class-3 and class-4 employees every year on Diwali. Last year, the then commissioner Nipun Vinayak had refused to give bonus and Diwali gifts on the grounds of lack of funds. Even this year, due to the Covid-19, the financial condition of the corporation has become fragile, but the administrator has announced that the tradition will be maintained. Accordingly, it was decided to provide Diwali ex-gratia to class-3 and class-4 employees and gifts to other employees on Diwali. In all, Rs 3,500 each will be given to 2,638 class three and fourth employees and 75 employees from the education department. Also, Rs 2,000 each will be given as Diwali gift to kindergarten staff, six staff from Satara-Deolai, 181 teachers from education department, 158 salaried staff, link workers, temporary teachers, 331 staff from self help groups. Ex-gratia grant and gift of Rs 1.10 crore was approved for 3,495 employees.

Small contractors to get pending bills

Last month, Rs 40 crore was given to big contractors in AMC. The administration decided to issue bills of Rs 6 crore for small contractors. The accounts department was ordered to pay the contractors before Diwali.
