Aurangabad, Nov 6:
The Pro-vice chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) Dr Shyam Shirsath today informed that the administration would decide over re-opening of the campus and colleges affiliated to it as per the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the State Government, soon.
Dr Shirsat said, " We have received UGC''s guidelines today. It directs to re-start the colleges after Diwali festival (from November 16), but the varsity had declared Diwali vacation from November 12 to 18. Hence, we will refer to the state government''s order in connection with the reopening of colleges as per the Covid-19 situation and the UGC guidelines and decide after the holidays."
UGC has recommended starting classes for researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate (final year) course students in the first phase. The commission also suggested deciding over conducting online or offline teaching with a limited number of students. " We will have a discussion with the Deans (of all streams) tomorrow and submit a proposal for final decision before the Vice-Chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole," said Dr Shirsath.
Meanwhile, all researchers and students of various courses are anxious to know what decision does the university take regarding the re-opening of institutions. The hostels on BAMU campus are still being used as Covid Centres. Hence, if the varsity decides on conducting offline classes, then the issue of lodging arrangement of students would emerge. The students are also confused as if the hostels are not open for them, then would they get rooms on rent in the city.
