A 12-member Central Government team, who had arrived in the city for Cleanliness Survey 2021 on Monday evening, stopped their work in the middle and left the city today. The inspection will resume after the Covid-19 situation attains normalcy, it is learnt.

Earlier, the team members had a meeting with Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Research Centre with the head of solid waste management (SWM) Nandkishore Bhombe, and all the sanitary inspectors, on Monday evening. There are 115 wards in the city. Hence, each member was supposed to survey in 9-10 wards during their stay of a few days in the city. By visiting places, the team members were asked to jot down their observations relating to cleanliness and hygienic environment in the city, record statements of people relating to solid waste management through interactions etc. The ranking of Garbage Free Cities in the country was to be fixed as per the marks scored by each city.

It may be noted that the team, started the inspection on Tuesday morning, but stopped in the afternoon after learning about the rise in Covid-19 patients. They immediately intimated their senior Central Government officers and requested them to stop the survey and sought permission to leave the city.
