Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Couple Assaults On-Duty Traffic Cop Near High Court Signal; Case Registered After Video Goes Viral

A video from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar showing a couple assaulting an on-duty traffic constable has gone viral. According to reports, a man in the video, said to be drunk, was allegedly attacking a constable on a busy road. The incident is reported to have taken place at the High Court signal.

A criminal case has been registered against the accused couple. Traffic constable Santosh Kharat was on duty at the High Court signal when the incident occurred. He alleged that the scooter was being driven recklessly, close to the road divider.

The accused has been identified as Somnath Murlidhar Giri, who was stopped by the traffic police for questioning. During the check, the constable found that Giri was under the influence of alcohol.

When the traffic constable began further inquiry, the woman allegedly started arguing aggressively, while the accused man abused the constable and reportedly issued threats, warning him of consequences within two days. As the situation escalated, Giri called his wife to the spot. After she arrived, both allegedly engaged in a heated argument with the on-duty policeman.

The argument turned violent, and the couple reportedly assaulted Constable Kharat by slapping and pushing him. In a dramatic escalation, Somnath Giri reportedly lay down on the road in the middle of traffic, causing major disruption and congestion at the busy junction. A video of the altercation has gone viral, showing Giri's aggressive behaviour towards the traffic police. In the clip, he and his wife can be seen charging at the officers several times.
