Aurangabad, Oct 30:

The water supply in the city was disrupted on Diwali last year. Hence citizens are asking whether they will get abundant water this Diwali. The municipal corporation has no plans to provide additional water. However, officials and staff of the water supply department will be on their toes for five days to ensure that the water supply is not disrupted on the scheduled day.

The municipal corporation does not have the capacity to bring an increased quantity of water from Jayakwadi to Aurangabad. Somehow the water supply schemes, which expired twenty-five to thirty years ago, are still in operation. During the five days from November 10-15, all the officers and employees of the water supply department will keep an eye on the waterlines and distribution system. Staff will be deployed every five kilometres from Aurangabad city to Jayakwadi to monitor the water supply, said Kiran Dhande, executive engineer water supply department. This year, care is being taken to ensure that the citizens get water on time. The corporation does not have any facility to provide extra water on Diwali, Dhande said. In the last eight to ten years, the corporation has never supplied water, especially for Diwali. He said efforts were being made to get maximum water to the residents on the fourth and fifth day of Diwali.

Water supply by tanker

Water is being supplied to more than 200 settlements in the city by tankers. The municipal corporation will try to supply maximum water to the citizens by tankers on Diwali. Dhande said water would be provided wherever there was demand.
