Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Under the new water supply scheme, an additional 200 MLD of water will reach the city on March 19, coinciding with Gudi Padwa. Ahead of this, instructions were issued on Tuesday by the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) and Municipal Corporation administration to GVPR, Mahavir, and MSEDCL to complete all works from Jayakwadi to Nakshatrawadi. Officials made it clear that no reasons or excuses will be entertained thereafter.

On Tuesday, municipal commissioner G Sreekanth and MJP chief engineer, Manisha Palande, conducted a joint inspection and review of the scheme. The first phase of work is nearing completion. Monthly hearings are being held in court, and on Thursday, G. Sreekanth will have to submit an affidavit there. Against this backdrop, they carried out the inspection on Tuesday.

The jackwell installed at Jayakwadi has been cleaned. They were instructed to ensure that nails, wooden pieces, and other debris are not left inside the jackwell, as it houses two 3,700-horsepower motors. Once operational, the water level from the bottom of the jackwell will exceed 15 feet, with silt settling below. The motors will only pump water.

The main pipeline work has been completed, and the water mains at Dhangaon and Kaudgaon are being encased in cement concrete. For electrical work, Mahavir Company has requested an additional 15 days. MSEDCL will provide the necessary connections within two days.

Eight locations required reconstruction

A 2,500 mm diameter pipe carries water from Jayakwadi to the city. Cement slabs (“chairs”) have been prepared beneath the main pipeline for support. Some of these slabs were poorly executed, and gaps exist between certain slabs and the pipe. Eight slabs are being destroyed and rebuilt.

Cleaning of 38 km pipeline

The distance from Jayakwadi to Nakshatrawadi is 38 km. Cleaning of the water pipeline will begin in the coming days. Contaminated water will be drained through valves. This work may take about a month. The pumps will be operational by Gudi Padwa.

New tenders for eight ESRs

GVPR Company has declined to execute works for eight elevated storage reservoirs (ESRs) in the city. Due to delay in handing over land possession, it is now impossible to complete these ESRs on time. Therefore, G Sreekanth has instructed that a new tendering process be conducted for these overhead water tanks. The cost of the works, initially estimated at ₹7 crore, is now likely to rise to around ₹10 crore.
