Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Soon after the municipal corporation elections, the administration has once again focused on the collection of property tax and water tax, and so far, ₹200 crore has been collected. The administration is determined to collect at least another ₹100–150 crore by March 31.

Property and water taxes form the backbone of the municipal corporation’s finances. From April 1, the administration intensified its collection efforts. Some contractual employees assigned for collections were removed from duty, creating a stir among other staff. Officers and staff of each zone formed special teams to boost collection. Meanwhile, the administration also introduced a scheme for interest waiver. Under this scheme, over ₹100 crore was collected in property tax and water tax. Besides, residents who wanted certificates of payment for property tax during the civic elections contributed more than ₹15 crore. Two days ago, the collection crossed the ₹200 crore mark, as informed by commissioner G Sreekanth.

Over the past month, officials and staff in all wards were busy with election-related work. Regular administrative work resumed from Monday. The section of the assessor and collector of tax has again intensified collection efforts, with deputy commissioner Vikas Navale stating that collections are being focused zone-wise. Another ₹100–150 crore is expected to be collected by March 31. This will be a historic high for the municipal corporation, as previous maximum collections never exceeded ₹300–350 crore, he said.
