Debate in civic body meeting over parking at Darga vegetable market

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Corporators raised concerns in Monday’s general body meeting over parking arrangements at Shahnoormiya vegetable market, alleging that some space has been allotted to a travel association, causing inconvenience to local residents. Citizens in the area are already troubled due to the vegetable market, and encroachments are gradually increasing on the site, they claimed. The mayor directed that a detailed report be presented in the next meeting and ordered that no action be taken until then.

Tryambak Tupe raised the issue during the question hour, stating that traffic congestion, garbage and foul smell due to the market, along with the bus depot, are troubling residents of Keshavnagar and Deshpandepuram. He demanded that the municipal corporation should develop a shopping complex on the site. Kishor Nagre suggested setting up a planned vegetable market on the lines of the one in N-11. Ganesh Lokhande, Archana Neelkanth and Shobha Burande highlighted traffic congestion caused by roadside vegetable vendors.

Rajgaurav Wankhede drew attention to the allotment of land for the bus depot. Usama Abdul Qadeer advised that if the Shahnoorwadi bus depot is closed, alternative arrangements for those buses must be considered. Ganesh Navandar suggested that buses could be accommodated at the truck terminal behind the Garware company. It was also stated that the municipal corporation earns an annual revenue of Rs 58.88 lakh from the Darga area.
