Decision on handcarts after Eid

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A decision regarding the issue of handcarts in the city will be taken after the festival of Eid ul‑Fitr, mayor Sameer Rajurkar assured traders on Tuesday along with Shinde Sena corporator Hrishikesh Jaiswal. Following the assurance, Jaiswal decided to temporarily withdraw the protest he had announced.

A meeting was held at the municipal corporation office on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of the mayor and the deputy mayor Rajendra Janjal, along with corporator Jaiswal. During the meeting, traders and Jaiswal demanded strict action against unregulated handcarts.

Traders said that the issue of handcarts has troubled them for nearly 20 years. During festivals such as Diwali and Eid, a large number of handcarts are set up on roads. It was also pointed out that because of some vendors in the Shahganj area, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been obstructed from view. The mayor assured that action would be taken around the statue.

He further said that after Eid, strict measures would be implemented to ensure that street carts do not obstruct traffic. Alternative locations and designated hawkers’ zones will be created, and efforts will be made to find a permanent solution to the issue.
