Early cancer detection saved my father’s life, says son of survivor

Aurangabad, Feb 3:

A patient's life was saved from cancer fortunately as he had gone for Novel coronavirus test and was found suffering from lung cancer.

Talking to this newspaper, Shyam Ban, the patient's son said that his father was suffering from body pain when a large number of Novel coronavirus patients were being reported in Marathwada.

He said that his family members did his COVID test thinking that he may have infected from the pandemic virus.

“However, his report was negative to the virus test. As body pain continued, doctors advised him for MRI test.

His x-ray test was conducted and found some problem in his right lung. His MRI test was carried out at Hydrabad and he was found suffering from lung cancer,” he said.

Shyam said that his father’s life was saved because of the timely detection of cancer in COVID period is happy.

“My father is 67 year today. He regularly worked on our farm without taking any leave. After surgery, he stopped going to the farm and only do walking. Dr Achyut Ban, my uncle, who is a doctor, counselled us for surgery and completed all process, including different tests. We never imagined it. The atmosphere of COVID forced to take him for its test. The cancer was detected in further tests. My father is leading a normal life now,’ he added.

Associate professor and Surgical Oncologist from Government Cancer Hospital Dr Ajay Boralkar said Bhagwan Ban who hails from Hotala village in Naigaon tehsil of Nanded district had uncommon cancer and surgery was a bit risky. He said that the surgery was carried out and the patient’s two lobes from right lung were removed.

“The patient was very sad as he never thought that he had uncommon cancer that too in the lung. He was hesitant a bit for the surgery. Doctors counselled Bhagwan who prepared for the surgery. The patient is leading a normal life without any complication or pain,” he added.
