Four booked for abetting 19-yr old married woman to commit suicide for Rs 2 lakh
Aurangabad, Dec 26:
Satara police have registered an offence against four members of in-laws including husband, for torturing and abetting a 19-year-old woman, who was pregnant, to commit suicide for want of Rs 2 lakh to set up mobile shop, in Sadatnagar. The police arrested the husband Mirza Aslam Baig Safdar Baig (27) based on the complaint lodged by the deceased''s father.
The complainant and deceased''s father Taffazul Mahmood Hussain Khan (resident of Rasheedpura) stated that his daughter Rufaida and was married to Mirza Aslam Baig on November 9, 2019. After one month of marriage, Rufaida''s husband, mother-in-law Nafisa, sister-in-law Salma Begum, and brother-in-law Ubaid Baig started to pick a quarrel over petty reasons frequently. They would abuse and torture her saying your father had not given dowry in the marriage. The victim woman had intimated about the ill-treatment meted out by the in-laws to her parents. Later on, the matter became serious and a meeting was organised between the complainant and all the accused in March, this year. The husband and his elder brother Ubaid demanded to give Rs 2 lakh to start a mobile shop. Rufaida''s father showed an inability in giving such huge money, but he handed over Rs 50,000 to them. After some time, the in-laws again started to torture demanding Rs 2 lakh to start the mobile shop. Again a meeting was organised at the house of complainant''s brother on December 20. In the meeting, the Taffazul Khan assured the accused of arranging Rs 2 lakh in two months and requested not to torture his daughter till then. The accused accepted the request. Rufaida became restless on seeing the financial burden imposed on her father, and she committed suicide on December 25. Satara police had registered an offence in this regard.
Meanwhile, the police produced the accused husband before the court today. The judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) Dhanashri Bhandari awarded police custody remand to Mirza Aslam Baig till December 28. Assistant government pleader Sameer Bedre represented on behalf of the government.
