In the wake of the recent attempt to molest a lady doctor at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), the issue of the unauthorized residents at GMCH has once again come to the fore. Around 25 percent unauthorized residents are staying at the employees quarters in GMCH. Hence, it is clear that these residents have the patronage of GMCH itself as no action has been taken in this regard so far. Hence, anti-social elements are freely wandering in the quarters and the nearby areas here.

Police busted a gambling den at the GMCH residential quarters in March, 2018. Then, the GMCH committee established by the administration inspected the illegal residents in the quarters and issues notices to them. Some residents were removed from the quarter but the driver was stopped in the middle. There are around 398 quarters for class and 1 to class 4 employees. However, the number of unauthorized residents staying here is more. Many employees have given these quarters on rent. Moreover, the tenants have kept sub-tenants at many places. No strict action was taken in this regard ever.

On October 4, when CP,Dr Nikhil Gupta visited GMCH, the administration told him that there are unauthorized residents staying in the quarters. Then he questioned that what the administration is doing then.

Meanwhile, deputy dean, Dr Bharat Sonawane said, the administration is having a list of the residents. Accordingly, notices will be served to the unauthorized residents. There are around 25 percent such residents and action will be taken under the guidance of district collector, he said.
