Aurangabad, April 20:
Throwing parameters of quality to wind, the State Government granted permission to 49 new non-aided colleges within the jurisdiction of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu).
It may be noted that the university received more than 250 proposals to start new colleges in Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed and Osmanabad districts which fall within Bamu’s jurisdiction.
As per the Government has made 118 parameters of the Dr Narendra Jadhav Committee compulsory while giving permission to new colleges.
The Management Council members approved only 12 proposals which were fulfilling all norms and rejected others.
The State Government sought the proposals and granted approval to 49 new colleges to oblige minister, legislator and leaders of some political parties.
The granted colleges mostly from rural areas are anyhow managing the strength of students every.
With the new colleges, the students' number of the granted colleges would go down and teachers may stand surplus in such a situation.
The academicians and authorities of the university feel that the State Government set a wrong example by grant permission for the proposal.
Management Council member of Bamu Dr Rajesh Karpe said that the post of principal and approved teachers are lying vacant in the existing non-aided college, so the new colleges will affect the granted institutes.
“There are three main parameters out of a total 118. The first is that the village should not less than 10,000 population. The second is that another college should be away at least 15 km from the proposed institute and the third is that an education society should have good NAAC grade,” he said.
Spokesman of Maharashtra Youth Congress Dr Nilesh Ambewadikar said that the Government needs to improve the quality of education than increasing the number of colleges.
“There are many non-aided colleges which do not have facilities, approved teachers and students strength. How the new colleges will get students,” he added.
