Healing hands, strong hearts: Women shaping the future of healthcare
Dr Sadaf Dilshad Zaidi
Every healthy child, every informed mother, and every strong community reflects the silent strength of women. As we celebrated International Women’s Day recently, it is important to recognise the invaluable role women play not only in their families but also in shaping the health and future of society.
As a paediatrician and Government Medical Officer at Primary Health Centre Chauka in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, I have the privilege of witnessing the remarkable resilience and dedication of women every day. In rural healthcare settings, women are often the first guardians of health. A mother’s awareness about nutrition, vaccination, hygiene, and timely medical care can determine the well-being and future of her child.
Over the years, public health initiatives such as immunisation drives, nutrition programmes, and maternal health awareness campaigns have made significant progress. However, the true strength behind these initiatives lies in the active participation of women-mothers who bring their children for vaccinations, pregnant women who prioritise antenatal care, and community health workers who tirelessly serve villages.
Women healthcare workers-doctors, nurses, and ASHA workers-play a critical role in bridging the gap between medical services and the community. Often working in challenging conditions, they travel from home to home, educate families, monitor children’s growth, and ensure that no child is left behind in receiving essential healthcare.
Empowering women in healthcare is not just about recognising their contribution-it is about investing in the well-being of society itself. When women are educated, supported, and given opportunities to lead, entire communities benefit. An informed mother raises a healthier child, and a confident girl can become tomorrow’s doctor, scientist, or leader.
Let us celebrate the compassion, resilience, and dedication of women who work tirelessly to heal, nurture, and protect. When a woman cares for a child, she is not only saving a life; she is shaping the future of our nation.
A healthier society begins with empowered women-and their healing hands continue to build a stronger, brighter tomorrow.
