After celebrating Holi with family and friends, two close friends tragically lost their lives after getting trapped in the silt while swimming in a lake in the Kacchi Ghati area.

The deceased youths have been identified as Harshal Bansadkar (20, resident of MGM area) and Aditya Popat Jadhav (21, Jadhavwadi). The incident came to light at 5 pm on Friday.

Harshal, Aditya, and their friends had planned to celebrate Dhulivandan together. They played Holi in the city from morning till afternoon. Later, seven of them decided to go swimming at Kacchi Ghati lake. They reached the lake on their motorcycles, and all seven of them went into the water together. While swimming, Harshal and Aditya ventured deeper into the lake (in the centre) but failed to estimate the depth. The lake had accumulated a large amount of silt, causing both of them to get stuck in the silt.

As they began to struggle, their friends noticed the situation. By the time they reached them, one had already sunk completely into the silt, and the other was unconscious, floating on the water's surface.

Upon receiving the information, Chikalthana's police inspector Ravikiran Darwade, PSI Shrinivas Dhule, and fire officer Shrikrishna Holambe rushed to the scene with their team. The bodies of the two friends were retrieved by late evening and sent to the District Civil Hospital. After the postmortem on Saturday, their bodies were handed over to their families, said PSI Dhule. Both victims were college students.
