Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
The number of people dumping garbage in open spaces across the city has increased, and there has also been a rise in unauthorised posters and banners. To ensure that cleanliness is maintained and the city does not suffer visual pollution, especially as it is a tourism capital, Smart City Mission chief executive officer (CEO) G Sreekanth, on Thursday, directed officials to make effective use of the 750 CCTV cameras installed under the Smart City project. He ordered strict penal action against offenders.
The CEO reviewed the progress of Smart City projects at the municipal corporation headquarters on Thursday. To curb problems such as garbage being dumped on roads and dividers, unauthorised flex banners, and haphazard parking, he instructed officials to link the ‘Clean Streets’ App with the Smart City’s CCTV camera network. Using CCTV surveillance, close monitoring will be carried out against those dumping waste on roads or in open spaces, as well as against those installing illegal hoardings. Penal action against those responsible for defacement will be taken through the Nagrik Mitra Pathak. Smart City officials also informed that the progress of the app has been reviewed and it will be launched and made operational next week.
Penalty imposed on electric bus contractor
Sreekanth directed that the work on the bus depots at Sant Tukaram Natyagruh and Jadhavwadi be completed on priority. As the Garware Stadium area witnesses heavy vehicular movement, he also ordered effective implementation of the ‘Smart Parking’ project being undertaken there. He instructed officials to impose penalties on electric bus contractors as well. While advising against unnecessary expenditure, he emphasised that spending should not be avoided where it is essential to maintain the quality of projects.
The meeting was attended by Smart City deputy CEO Ravindra Jogdand, chief accounts officer Uttam Chavan, chief operations manager (Bus) Sanjay Supekar, project managers Imran Khan, Syed Faiz Ali and Kiran Aadhe, among others.
