The presence of Iranian gangs specializing in theft at railway stations has increased. Recently, at Bhusawal Railway Station, Advocate Bharti Bhagesh Kumar from Rajasthan was robbed of approximately 5.5 tolas of gold and silver ornaments.

The railway police arrested Sarfaraz Baba Shaikh (21, Shrirampur) in connection with the crime. On March 15, Bharti Bhagesh Kumar was waiting at Bhusawal Railway Station to board a train to Agra at 8 PM. She took a seat in the Shirdi-Kalka Express but later realized that her purse containing gold and silver jewellery had been stolen. A complaint was filed at the Bhusawal Railway Police Station. Following orders from Superintendent of Police Swati Bhor, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Railway Crime Branch was assigned the case, led by API Prashant Gambhirrao and his team.

Accomplice escapes, Sarfaraz arrested

CCTV footage helped identify the thief, and a confidential informant revealed that Sarfaraz belonged to an Iranian gang from Shrirampur. Police launched a technical investigation and tracked him to Pachora in Jalgaon district, where he was arrested on Sunday. However, his main accomplice managed to escape.

Stolen items recovered included

A 3-tola gold chain, three 5-gram gold rings, a 9-gram gold earring thread, and a 7-gram gold ring make up the gold jewellery collection. The silver items include a silver anklet, a silver bangle set, a silver toe ring, and a silver ring. Sarfaraz confessed that their gang operated across railway stations in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Jalgaon, Shirdi, Ahmednagar, Bhusawal, and even Madhya Pradesh.
