Jewellery theft cases surge in city; 2 houses targeted

In two separate incidents, unidentified burglars stole gold jewellery worth nearly 9.7 tolas from residences in different parts of the city. The thefts took place in Mayanagar and Jadhavwadi, with both cases now under police investigation.

In the first incident, Prasad Mhaskar (30), a hotel manager residing in Mayanagar, discovered the theft on the night of March 21 while preparing for a village trip. His wife and son were away in Indore, and he was at work from 8 am to 8 pm. A house help had visited during the day. When Prasad checked his cupboard, he found that approximately 8.7 tolas of gold jewellery were missing. Suspecting an unknown person had stolen it, he lodged a complaint at Mukundwadi Police Station.

In another case in Jadhavwadi, burglars broke into a house and stole one tola of gold while the family was away on a pilgrimage. Mangesh Mohite (24), who assists his uncle Prabhakar Mohite in their contracting business, visited his uncle’s residence on March 23 at 7 am and found the main door lock broken. The burglars had ransacked the bedroom and stolen gold from an iron locker. CCTV footage revealed that the theft occurred at 2 am. A case has been registered at Cidco police station, and an investigation is underway.
