Aurangabad, May 17:

A large quantity of cement bags lying in the open space near the goods shed of the local railway station got hardened due to rain lashes received in the city on Sunday evening. The stock of cement was unloaded two days ago.

The stock of cement bags was lying in the open space in the yard. The labourers had covered the bags with tarpaulin sheets but were in vain. Many bags got wet in the rainfall on Sunday evening. Many cement bags got hardened, got torn, but the consignment was loaded in the truck (in its actual condition) on Monday. Earlier, the unloaders had informed that there will be no impact of rainfall on the cement bags.

Repeat of a 3-yr-old incident

The incident of cement bags getting wet had taken place in June 2018. There is a goods shed, but if the stock of different material arrives through 2-3 rakes of goods train (at the same time) then the stock is unloaded in open space and then it is further loaded and transported in the truck by agency or company (placing the order). The railways levy a charge if the material is not unloaded from the goods strain within nine hours after its arrival in the yard. The charge is levied on each bag on an hourly basis. Hence to evade the charges the material is unloaded in the open space.

Today, the goods train arrived with the stock of fertilizers. Due to changes in weather, the gunny bags of the fertilizers were directly loaded in a truck from the goods train. The trucks were parked in front of each wagon.
