Aurangabad, Nov 26:

“Maharashtra has good water resources, but, it lacks proper management. Huge water usage for sugarcane crops and environmental degradation will lead to acuate water crunch. There is a need for water management to avoid scarcity,” said Rajendra Singh Rana, Environmentalist and Water Conservationist.

He was speaking in a webinar organised by Sahakar Maharshi Balasaheb Pawar Study Centre of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) on ‘Climate Change and Water Management’ on Thursday to observe the death anniversary of Balasaheb Pawar.

Pro vice-chancellor Dr Shyam Shirsath presided over the event while Management council members Kishor Shitole and Rajesh Karpe, industrialist Mansingh Pawar, registrar Dr Jaishri Suryavanshi, deans Dr Bhalchandra Waykar, Dr Walmik Sarwade and Dr Chetna Sonkamble and Study centre director Dr Purushottam Deshmukh attended the webinar. Magsaysay awardee Rajendra Singh there is good sugarcane produce in irrigated farming in the State, so, a large quantity of water is used for cultivation.

“Global warming and climate change have become a burning issue in this century,” he added. Kishor Shitole lauded the contribution of Balasaheb Pawar in the prosperity of rural Marathwada. Dr Nitin Patil conducted the proceedings while Sanjay Shinde proposed a vote of thanks.
