Man booked for rape after backing out of marriage promise

Jawaharnagar police have registered a rape case against Jaydatt Chorge (24) on a complaint by his 23-year-old girlfriend after he allegedly refused to marry her following a live-in relationship.

The complainant stated that she met Jaydatt in June 2023 while living in the city for education. Their friendship turned into a relationship, and he allegedly promised marriage. On that assurance, they entered into a physical relationship and lived together at various locations in the city for several months. Later, his family opposed the marriage, and he moved to Pune. When she visited him there, they again had physical relations. Recently, citing her alleged suspicion and mistrust, he refused to marry her. The woman then approached Jawaharnagar police, after which a rape case was registered. Police sub-inspector Ganesh Mane is investigating the matter.
