MGM Medical College gets nod for M.Ch. HPB Surgery course

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

MGM Medical College and Hospital, Cidco, has received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC), New Delhi, to start a super-speciality M.Ch. course in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery from April 4, 2026. With this, it becomes the fourth medical college in the country to offer the programme.

The HPB Surgery department, developed from the Centre for Advanced Endoscopy and Minimal Invasive Surgery established in 2001 under Dr Pravin Suryavanshi, has handled complex liver, pancreas and biliary cases over the years. The centre has performed advanced procedures including laparoscopic Whipple’s surgery and liver transplants in the region.

The department currently includes prof Dr Pravin Suryavanshi, associate prof Dr Sushil Deshpande and assistant prof Dr Aman Gaikwad. Deputy dean of the MGM Medical College said, Officials said the course is expected to strengthen specialised treatment and training in complex surgical care.

Secretary A. N. Kadam, vice president Dr P. M. Jadhav and dean Dr R. B. Bohra, along with staff, acknowledged the development.
