Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A shocking discovery sent panic through Vadgaon Kolhati on Saturday when the body of a missing man was found floating in a pond near his home. He had been missing since Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ankush Katkar (33), who had been missing since Wednesday. His body surfaced in the pond located at Gat No. 68, with one side of his face eaten away by fish, making identification difficult.

Katkar’s brother confirmed his identity, bringing an end to days of uncertainty. The grim discovery attracted a large crowd, with hundreds of curious onlookers gathering at the pond’s embankment. Locals alerted the authorities, and officers from Waluj MIDC Police Station, led by PSI Vinod Abuj, rushed to the scene.

Police recover body, launch investigation

Tanta Mukta committee president Krishnabhau Sale and local leader Ashok Nikam informed the police about the floating corpse. A team of police personnel, including constables Rajabhau Kolhe, Balasaheb Andhale, and Suresh Taraw, along with home guards and gram panchayat workers, retrieved the body. Authorities believe it had been in the water for two days. During the search, officers found a mobile phone with a cover featuring an image of Lord Ram in the deceased’s pocket.

Eighth body found in the pond

This pond has now become a cause for concern, with Katkar’s body marking the eighth such recovery. Locals fear it is turning into a suicide hotspot. While police suspect suicide in this case as well, an official investigation is underway. ASI Suresh Taraw is leading the probe to determine the exact cause of death.
