The water supply section of the municipal corporation has implemented a 30-hour shutdown to repair a leakage in the 1400 mm diameter water pipeline that supplies water to the city, along with other various works. After supplying water to some colonies on Thursday morning, the water supply to the old city was stopped. This led to a water shortage in the old city. The master balancing reservoir (MBR) pipe at Nakshatrawadi has been replaced, and repair work on the 1400 mm water pipeline is underway under the Railway Station flyover, said the deputy engineer (water supply), M M Bawiskar.
Currently, one pump of the 1400 mm diameter water pipeline is operational, and work on the 700 mm and 900 mm pipelines is also functioning.
The pipe at the Y-junction of the MBR in Nakshatrawadi is being replaced, and the repair work on the 1400 mm diameter water pipeline under the Railway Station flyover is underway. A new valve is being installed on the 700 mm water pipeline in front of the Mayor's bungalow. Besides, repair work on the water pipeline at Pharola is also being carried out.
Water shortage in 35 colonies
There is a severe water shortage in around 35 colonies which were receiving water supply from Kranti Chowk, Jinsi, Shahganj, Kotla Colony, Vedantnagar, Jubilee Park, Hanuman Tekdi, and Railway Station elevated storage reservoirs (ESRs). Citizens are facing significant hardships, and the prices of private tankers have also increased.
Provide 200 MLD water by April 30
Although nearly 80 percent of the work on the new water supply scheme project has been completed, Divisional Commissioner Dilip Gawade has instructed, on Thursday, that the first phase of the water supply, providing 200 MLD, should be completed and supplied to the city by April 30, said the sources.
The court has established a committee under the chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner to monitor the progress of the new water supply scheme project. The committee reviews the project every 15 days and submits a report to the court. A meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner. The work of connecting the main water pipeline is nearly complete, and the work on the water treatment plant is also in the final stages. The work on the Jack Well is progressing rapidly.
The plan is to supply 200 MLD of water in the first phase. Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) reported that out of the 1900 km of internal water distribution pipelines planned, 1200 km have already been laid. The meeting was attended by the municipal corporation's additional commissioner Ranjit Patil, MJP's Chief Engineer Manisha Palande, Executive Engineer Kiran Patil, and Municipal Corporation's Executive Engineer K M Phalak and others.
