PET scan work begins, testing to start by end of May

Work on the PET scan facility has finally begun at the Government Cancer Hospital (State Cancer Institute). The required construction has started in the old eye hospital building within the hospital area. The PET scan service is expected to become operational by the end of May.

The government cancer hospital has emerged as a major support centre for cancer patients from Marathwada and across the state. At present, patients have to pay between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 for a PET scan at private hospitals. A decision to start this facility on a PPP basis was taken a few months ago, and the work has now commenced.

A pet scan helps determine how far cancer has spread in the body and the stage of the disease. This information is crucial for accurate treatment planning.

Facility within the hospital

More and better services are being provided at the cancer hospital. The PET scan facility will be available soon, and poor patients will no longer need to visit private hospitals for this test.

Addition to patient facilities

The PET scan will significantly enhance patient facilities. The test will be covered under government schemes. Efforts will also be made to ensure PET scans are available at concessional rates, similar to CT scan and MRI.

Facility by end of May

Turnkey work of the building required for the PET scan has begun. Once completed, the machine will be installed. After receiving the necessary permissions, PET scan testing will start by the end of May.
