Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Deogiri College’s Music Department organised the late Pt. Nath Neralkar Memorial State Level Hindustani Classical Singing Competition. Pt Vishwanath Oak inaugurated the State-level classical singing competition.

Dr Ashok Tejankar, Principal of Deogiri College presided over the function. Pt Shivdas Deglurkar, Pt. Hemant Pendse, Jayant Neralkar, Pandurang Ghotkar, All India Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Sangeet Sabha president Balasaheb Suryavanshi, Vice Principal Dr. Ganesh Mohite, Dr Aparna Taware were present on the stage as judges of this competition.

In his inaugural speech, Pt. Vishwanath Oak said that it is not important whether the music is classical, sub-classical, or easy, but that it is music. He asserted that classical music is the Gangotri of all music.

In his presidential address, Principal Dr Ashok Tejankar said the college started a B.Voc Music degree course and many artists from the city took the admission for this course.

The dignitaries presented the prizes to the winners. The names of the winners are Bhakti Pawar- first prize (Rs 21,000 and certificate), Darshan Melvanki- second prize (Rs 15,000) and Saurabh Gawande- third prize (Rs11,000). Head of the Music Department Shailaja Kulkarni proposed a vote of thanks.
