Reckless driving on rise in city

Reckless driving, particularly triple riding on two-wheelers, has become increasingly common in the city, raising concerns over road safety and enforcement.

Traffic police data shows that in 2026, till April 20, a total of 15,472 persons have already been fined for triple riding. Officials said the numbers indicate that violations continue at a significant pace. Traffic authorities have repeatedly warned that triple riding not only violates motor vehicle rules but also increases the risk of fatal accidents. Police officials stated that special drives are being conducted at key junctions and busy roads to curb the practice. Road safety activists have urged stricter enforcement along with sustained public awareness campaigns, especially targeting young riders and students. With accident risks rising due to negligent driving habits, authorities are expected to intensify checks in the coming months to ensure compliance and improve overall traffic discipline in the city.
