Aurangabad, Dec 13: Continuous supply of energy is necessary for the progress of human being in the modern world as it makes communities safer, helps small businesses survive, even thrive, and powers essential services such as schools and clinics.
Energy conservation is an effort made to reduce the consumption of energy so that energy sources can be saved for future uses. However, energy conservation is achievable either by using energy more efficiently or by reducing the amount of service usage.
Conservation of energy is the need of the hour. It means using the available resources judiciously and preventing wastage of energy through efficient methods.
The district has gradually adopted conservation measures like energy audit in industries, using LED lights.
Commenting on this, founder president of Urja Manch Hemant Kapadia said that energy conservation is an effort made to reduce the consumption of energy and use it judiciously so that energy sources can be saved for future uses.
“ Conservation of one unit is like generating one unit. There are four types of electricity consumers-Industrial, Agriculture, Commercial and Domestic. Industries in the district are already doing an energy audit to save money in the competition. Domestic consumers are shifting towards LED lights to save electricity and bill. Energy conservation of Agriculture, Commercial consumers, depends on the situation. But, in many Government offices, fans and lights are used even if there is the meagre staff. The offices should reduce its use," he said.
The State Government designated Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA), as the nodal agency to coordinate, regulate and enforce the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act and implement schemes under the said Act. This is a significant step forward for MEDA has the additional responsibility of promoting and developing energy efficiency, besides facilitating renewable energy development.
Divisional general manager (Aurangabad) of Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) Vikas Rode said that with the growth in the population, the requirement for energy is also increasing continuously, so, it should be used the available resources judiciously and preventing wastage of energy through efficient methods.
MEDA celebrates ''Energy Conservation Day'' every year to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of energy conversation and energy efficiency. It has launched a radio jingle this year for 11 cities including Aurangabad Pune, Nashik to create awareness from December 14 to 20.
“Saving one unit is like generating three units. Three units reduce to one until reaching it to the consumer in the distribution system.
Energy conservation is achievable either by using energy more efficiently or by reducing the amount of service usage. Our energy resources may last only for next few decades or so. Therefore, every individual must include energy conservation in their behaviour and to make energy conservation plan more effective,” he said.
As per the State Energy Conservation Policy 2017, Energy Conservation Schemes are being implemented in State.
They are , Street Lighting and water pumping Scheme for Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council; Save Energy Programme; Small and Medium Enterprises Programme; Waste Heat Recovery Programme; Energy Conservation Pilot Project Implementation in Government, Semi-Government and Urban Local bodies programme and Energy Clubs Establishment in School.
