Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Authorities have reinforced security at Aurangzeb’s tomb by installing an iron sheet enclosure behind the site following escalating tensions on Wednesday. The move aims to prevent unauthorized access and ensure stability in the region.

The tomb, located beside the shrine of Syed Zainuddin Chishti, draws hundreds of visitors daily. A similar controversy surfaced earlier, prompting temporary measures like placing a green cloth over a metal frame. Renewed tensions in the past few weeks led to unrest in Nagpur on Monday, prompting authorities to act. On Wednesday, the Archaeological Department removed the green cloth and installed iron sheets for enhanced security. Officials cited the continuous influx of devotees as a reason for the precautionary step. Meanwhile, the site has witnessed a drop in tourist footfall amid the ongoing tensions. On March 16, 70 tourists visited the tomb, followed by 60 on March 17, 59 on March 18, and only 52 on March 19. Heavy police deployment continues, with senior officials monitoring the situation closely.
