Even though the Ministry of Defence (MoD) allowed the cantonment board to fill various posts two years ago, the recruitment process has been hampered due to the board''s apathy. Most employees have retired years ago. However, these posts have not been filled.

There are around 11 posts vacant in the Aurangabad Cantonment Board (ACB). Two years ago, the ACB had sent a proposal to the MoD for filling up the post. The proposal had received immediate approval. But the ACB, since then has turned a blind eye to carry out the recruitment drive. At present there is tremendous work load on every employee. Therefore, many development works are hampered. Similarly, citizens have to constantly approach the office to take follow up of the work. The issue has also been raised in the meeting by the board members, but no action has been taken yet. The citizens who come for work have to bear the brunt of lack of manpower.

ACB lacks accountant

Two accountants including Rihanna Sheikh retired two years ago and Mohammad Bashir, who was then in charge of the accounts department, has also retired recently. The board no longer has the right person to hold the post. The chief executive officers have also neglected the issue. The limited officers and employees are working under pressure.

Eleven posts vacant

Three years ago, many citizens contracted gastroenteritis due to contaminated water in the cantonment area. The case made headlines all over the country. At that time, it was revealed that there was no official staff in the water supply department. Therefore, recognizing the seriousness of the incident, the MoD approved to fill vacant posts. An advertisement was published two years ago. Eighteen hundred candidates had applied for it. However, the board did not scrutinize the applications under the guise of not having staff. The process is still stalled.
