The Specialty Polyfilms in Waluj has received two Indian patents for the production of special polyethylene films that do not adversely affect the health and is an alternative to the highly dangerous type of PVC plastic.
The patents have been given for the polyethylene base meat wrap and fresh produce film and polyethylene base food service, catering film. Shantanu Deshpande, managing director of the company, said that Specialty Polyfilms has been working in the field of Polyfilms for about 30 years. They have expanded to Europe and the United States, as well as the local market. In the ongoing movement to move away from non-compostable plastic, they focused on the production of polyethylene film that is not harmful to health. The company was successful in developing the film, which is 100 percent decomposable and not harmful to health. These specialty products were honored in this category at both IFFA 2019 in Frankfurt, Germany and PLMA 2019 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Priyanka Arora-Mehta of GNP Legal Consulting assisted in the patent project as a patent attorney.
How is the product made
The company has developed these new products through a combination of food grade polymers and special processing. Both of these new films do not have any odor or bad taste like the PVC films in the market. This has paved the way for long-lasting preservation of fresh vegetables and fruits without odors. The product remains intact even in minus 30 degrees, and also at high temperatures.
